Apple Music Price in Nigeria: Get 30% Discount

I was going through my notifications earlier today when one caught my attention: Apple Music has increased its subscription fees in Nigeria. If you’re subscribed, you may want to take a look at your next billing cycle too.

From June 22, the individual plan on Apple Music will go up from ₦1,000 to ₦1,300 each month — a 30% rise. This marks the steepest adjustment since the service launched in Nigeria back in 2015. By comparison, the last change in November 2022 was only a 10% bump, moving from ₦900 to ₦1,000.

Apple hasn’t given a formal reason for the jump, but the continuous weakness of the Naira against the dollar makes moves like this unsurprising. At the same time, this increase keeps Apple Music in line with rivals. Spotify now charges ₦1,300 for its individual plan in Nigeria, while YouTube Music raised its own plan to the same price.

Despite the higher cost, Apple Music has seen rapid growth. The company reports that its Nigerian user base more than doubled in the past year. Streams from Nigeria were also up by 119% year-on-year, and the platform expanded its presence across 37 African countries, compared to just 12 the year before.

Even so, Apple Music still lags behind popular platforms like Audiomack and Boomplay, which dominate the market and offer premium options for as low as ₦900 per month.

Apple is betting that unique features — such as Sound Therapy, the Chill 24/7 radio station, and curated playlists designed with African creators — will convince subscribers that the extra ₦300 is worth it. Whether users agree remains to be seen.

For now, the big question is whether this price update will spread to other African countries soon. But one thing is certain Apple Music in Nigeria: Apple Music is on the rise, and so is its price.
